2000 Year-end Summary After 18 years of playing Ultimate, and having kept records now for more than 9 of those years, it's hard to break some of the all-time records. But we did indeed break a few of them. Before we get to the attendance and records, I want to thank Tim and Nancy Walker for again hosting a great season-ending game and party at their house. Thanks also to Bill for handing out several awards for this year. The 2000 Frizzbee awards were: Dale got the "Fix this" award [broken frisbee] for his tireless cheapskate efforts trying to fix cracked frisbees. Sadly, this disc was beyond even cheapskate repair. Judy got the "First-year Attendance Record Trophy" [F.A.R.T.] for most games in her first year. Sorry Gene, you had to be present to win! Craig got the "Where have you been?" trophy [a frisbee to get back in shape with]. Curt got the "Jumping and Body Sacrificing" trophy [a frog]. Raphael got the "Slip-Sliding" trophy [a banana]. We're sorry that we didn't get him cleats. Scott R got the "Stretch" trophy for his arm-stretching defensive moves. Bob N got the "Noisemaker" trophy for his helpful instructions on the field. ---------- Here are some records broken in 2000: 1. Most Games Bill "Mr. Attendance" Anker has held just about every attendance record imaginable, except one. You may remember that Bill had perfect attendance in 1996 and 1997, and played in 54 straight games, from August 15, 1995 to April 7, 1998. But amazingly, he never held the record for most games played in one season. Until now. Bill's 26 games this year (out of 27) breaks Dale's record of 25 games (out of 26), set back in 1995. [Dale: I thought my record was safe!] Of course, the 27 games we played this year is also a record. It helps to start on April 4 (a new record in itself), and to play through some rainy and cold days! But it was way harder back in 1995! :-) 2. Most New Players Another major record we set this year was the number of players who played for the first time (not counting our first season, of course). The 22 players in 2000 smashed last year's record of 17, which had beaten 1998's record of 14! Maybe next year we can hit 30! 3. Most Players Helped by 22 "Newbies," we had 58 different players at various games through the season. That shatters the previous record of 52, set in 1998. 4. Long Distance Usually, Jose' gets this one from Atlanta. John Cortese got it when he traveled from California. Big deal! Try visiting from another continent! Craig and Fred traveled all the way from South Africa to play frizzbee with us. Now that's commitment! Honorable mention: 1. New Players Many of our new players played one game, and were never heard from again. But other new players played almost as many as Bill! Judy and Gene each played 16 games during this, their first, season. Scott R, Aditi, Raphael also had big, somewhat streaky, numbers this year. But none of these quite matches Dusty's first year in 1996, when he played 20 out 21 games. And Dusty still claims he was there that 21st game, but couldn't find us! Sure, Dusty. Sure. 2. Streaks of 10 or more games in a row: Bill 16 and 10 Dusty 12 Scott R 11 Three players had 9 in a row. Bummer!
