2001 Year-end Summary

Thanks to everyone for an enjoyable season of Ultimate "Frizzbee".
Special thanks to Tim and Nancy Walker for again hosting the
season-ending game and party at their house, and to Bill
"Mr. Enthusiasm" for his weekly reviews, announcements,
and spot-on weather prognostications.

For those of you who missed the season-ending party, Bill handed
out the following 2001 awards:

1. The "Preseason" Award went to Karl and Brooke for their successful
preseason training regiment. We should all be advised to follow their
training program to prepare for the 2002 season. (For those of
you who don't have a clue what this is, see their new daughter,
Morgan Kristine, born 10-4-01.)

2. The "Stealth" Award: to Scott R for his stealthy,
appearing-out-of-nowhere, defense.

3. The "Veterans" Award: to Barb for her consistent attendance,
high quality of play, and team spirit for oh, only about
19 years in a row.

4. "Most Honorable Excuse" Award: to Steve Formisani for
taking off 5 weeks to kayak the Maine Island Trail
(nearly 300 miles of the Maine Coast).

5. "Spielberg" Award - to Bob Naftal for his many sound effects
while throwing, catching, defending, and (especially) faking throws.
Whoosh!

6. "FART" Award. The coveted "Frequent Attendance Record Trophy"
went to the Begin family for their combined high attendance.
Roger and Janet combined for 25 game appearances, not including
Jessica, Ryan, and their grandparents.

2001 Records:

This year, we broke 3 all-time team records, and 3 individual records:

1. On the first game of the season, we broke the record
for the most players in a season opener: 22.
That blows away the previous record of 15, set in 1996
and tied in 1999.

2. On the very next game, May 8, we broke the record
for most players in a game: 26. [This level was not sustained,
and our average of 15.8 people per game can't touch
the record of 16.7, set in 1999. See full list of records below.]
The previous record of 25 players was set on 8/31/99,
at Seabrook Beach.

3. We had the most players ever in a season: 61.
That breaks the record of 58 set just last year.

4. Brian Anker became the youngest player ever to play,
at age 9. We're not sure who used to hold that record.

5. Dan Luckom became the youngest competitive player,
at age 11. We're not sure who used to hold that record, either.

6. Finally, Tom Merrick broke his own record as the
most senior player ever, at age 65 years and 3 days
(but who's counting?). We hope Tom will continue
to break that record many more times.

Honorable Mention:

1. Bill once again tops the individual attendance record,
with 21 of 22 games. Bill, you're going to have to cut
back on those vacations to improve on that!

2. With our late start and two rainouts, we almost tied the record
for fewest games. We played 22, just one more than we did in 1985
and 1996.

3. We had 19 new players this year, second only to last year's 22.
Welcome!
