Dale's Field
2006 Summary

Hi fellow disc enthusiasts,

I hope you're all enjoying the extra hour we all got this weekend, even if it means less afternoon daylight for tossing discs.  It’s time for the annual season recap and stats.

2006 Recap

We had another great season this year, as we prepare for our silver anniversary next year.  Yes, our 25th year is almost upon us.  Who woulda thunk it?

Thanks again to Tim and Nancy Walker for hosting the now traditional season-ending game and party at their home, and Sinking Horse Field.  7 of us braved the cold and rain to play one last game of the season.  I even coaxed Roger to play in his street clothes, while drinking a beer, if not for long.

The traditional trophy presentation was unusually successful this year, because of the requirement of being present to win.  But we had a nice attendance, with people coming as far as Nebraska (Jim’s family).  Even the “No-Show Loser” award was accepted!  Perhaps Bill can share the details some day, although he is still looking for his napkin of notes from last year!

2006 Statistics

New Records:

  • It’s hard to set new records after 20+ years, but we set one we did: there was a record 32 new players join us for at least one game this season.  The previous record was 28, set in 2002.
  • We also tied the record for most games in a season (27) set in 2000.

Coulda-Woulda-Shoulda

  • If only we decided to play one more week:
    • We could have broken the all-time record of most games in a season.
    • We could have tied the record for latest game ever played, set back in 1995.
  • If only we had one more player show up for any game, we would have had the second-highest average of players per game.

Notables

  • Bill keeps the Frequent Attendance Record Trophy (FART) another year, for most games played: 25.  Who can challenge him next year?
  • We had 5 players with 20 or more games this year, tying for second-most ever.  Only bested by the 8 players who had 20+ in 1999.
  • We averaged 14.5 players per game, which was third highest ever.  How can we ever top the 16.7 mark set in 1999?
  • Only Bill managed to complete a streak of 10 or more games in a row this year, ending the season with 12 in a row.  Andy came so close, with 9 in a row.
  • Tom had perfect attendance once he started, playing in all of the last 6 games.
  • We had 51 different players this year, good for 5th on the all-time list.
