2010 Season's Highlights

Provided by our esteemed statistician, Dale
Hi all,

Congratulations on another fine year of Ultimate, and thanks to Eric and LeighAnn for hosting the end-of-season party. Those at the party saw Bill award the traditional trophies, of which you must be present to win. And I had fun quizzing everyone to match up the records set for each of the last 16 years with a set of records. First place was a tie, with 2 out of 16 correct answers. I’ll have to make future tests a tad easier.

This year, we set just one all-time record, a disappointing tie for the most number of rainouts in a year (4). That wouldn’t have been so bad, except we also played at least 2 other games in drizzle. At least the field didn’t turn brown this year.

We did have some other more notable stats:

  • We opened the season on April 6, the second earliest ever, missing the record set in 2000 by 2 days.
  • We tied the record for the second-highest number of players in a game: 26 at the beach on July 27. That 4-way tie for 2nd place still pales in comparison to the stunning 34 players we had on the beach in 2002.
  • We tied the record for the second-highest number of players for the season, at 69, tying with the 2002 season that had held for 7 years until shattered last year with the ridiculous total of 78.
  • Our total of 24 new players was good for 5th best of all time.
  • We had a respectable average of 14.1 players per game, even though we had 2 games of Hot Box with just 4 and 6 players, due the crummy weather I mentioned earlier.
Our coveted Frisbee Award Record Trophy went to Bill, after a 2 year hiatus. Bill has now won or tied for the FART trophy 10 of the last 15 years. As Bill noted, managing the pinnies and cones each week is quite a motivator. But still.

Interestingly, only Brian had a streak of 10 or more games in a year. Several years we’ve had 4 or 5 players do this.

Below is the summary of players with 5 or more games played. Good luck topping your attendance next year!
