Hi there fellow Frizzbee flyers,

Thanks to Pete and Habi for hosting another fantastic end-of-season party.  Thanks also to Bill for his unrivaled awards ceremony and Eric for his incredible slide show of photos.

I thought last year would be the peak attendance year in almost all categories.  And last year’s records of 111 different players, 37 pIayers in a game, and 36 players in a field game all still stand, but just barely.

This year, Season 34 (#13 at Tewksbury), crushed most other major attendance records.  And I mean crushed!   Average attendance, even with several extra Thursday games, was up more than 24% over last year’s record average, and last year’s was more than 13% higher than the previous record in 2013.

Peak attendance was even greater. At the end of the 2014 season, we had 6 games with 30 or more players in our history.  Last year, we had 3 games at 30 or more.  This year, we had had more than 30 players 14 times.

Let’s look at this another way.  In 2012, we had a record number of 441 player appearances (across all games).  In 2013, we topped that with 512.  In 2014, we hit 536.  Last year, we went wild and hit 639.  This year?  822!

Dare I say that this is too many, at least for the field?  This year, we averaged almost 28 players per game at the field, with 9 field games at 30 or more.  This is where we all need liability insurance, so we are going to be more strict on that next year.  Let’s try to have the BIG attendance games at the beach, where we can play 2 games at once.

With that, on to the records!

Overall records set this year:

1.       Highest average players per game:  28.3

a.       The previous high was 22.8, set in 2015.

2.       Most player appearances: 822

a.       The previous high was 639, set in 2015.

3.       Most regular players: 52

a.       The previous high was 34, set in 2015.

4.       Most super-regular players (20+ games): 16

a.       The previous high was 10, set in 2015.

5.       Most players with 10+ games in a row: 11

a.       The previous high was 7, set in 2012 and tied in 2015.

6.       Most players with 5+ games in a row to start the season: 9

a.       The previous high was 8, set in 2013 and tied in 2015.

7.       Most players with 10+ games in a row to start the season: 6

a.       The previous high was 5, set in 2013.

8.       Most games in a season: 29

a.       The previous high was 28, set in 2015.

9.       Most games with 20 or players: 27

a.       The previous high was 22, set in 2015.

10.   Most games with 30 or players: 14

a.       The previous high was 3, set in 2015.

11.   Most games in a season: 28

a.       The previous high was 27, set in 2000 and tied 4 times in 2006, 2007, 2012, and 2014.

12.   Consecutive games without a rainout: 42 (by adding one game to last year’s streak)

a.       The previous high was 41, set in 2014-2015.

13.   Tie for consecutive games without a rainout in a single season: 28

a.       This tied the record set in 2015, where we had no rainouts.

Honorable mention:

1.       Second-most players:  107

a.       The record is 111, set in 2015.

2.       Fourth-most new players:  42

a.       The record is 60, set in 2013.

3.       Tie for second-most players in a game (twice):  36

a.       The record is 37, set in 2015.

4.       Second-most players in a field game (also twice):  35

a.       The record is 36, set in 2015.

5.       Fifth-latest beach game:  September 1

a.       The record is September 16, set in 1986!

6.       Third most beach games: 6

a.       The record is 8, set in 1986!

Individual records set this year:

1.       Most games in a season: Pete

a.       Before this year, only 2 players had as many as 26 games played in a season.  Pete’s 28 will be tough to beat.

2.       Oldest regular player: Dave (of course!)

a.       He broke his own record set 4 years ago and broken every year since.  And if that isn’t enough, Dave was a super-regular player (20+ games) this year and last year.

Honorable mention:

1.       Dale’s 27 games is the second-most ever, while Bob, Nate, and Bill each tied the record for third-most with 26.

2.       Matt A’s 19 games by a new player is second-most all time.  And Becky’s 18 is third highest.

a.       Dusty holds the record of 20, set way back in 1998.

3.       Pete’s 96.6% of games played is only bested by Bill’s record of 100%, set in 1996 and repeated in 1997.

4.       Streakers: Pete and Nathan each have active streaks of 15 games in a row, so they can build on these to challenge the record going forward into next year (and the year after).  Roger (13 in a row) and Bill (12 in a row) also have active streaks.  The record streak is “only” 54.  Good luck with that!

Super-consistent players:

We have full statistics for the last 22 years (plus 3 of the early years).  Sifting through this history, we see that there are a relatively small number of super-consistent players.  We already have definitions for “regular” players (5 or more games) and super-regular players (20 or more games) for a single season.  To be a super-consistent player:

1.       You must currently be a regular player.  Sorry, all you consistent players in the past.  This category is not for you.

2.       You must average at least 10 games a year for each year that you've played.  It's not named “super-consistent” for nothing!

3.       You must have played at least 100 games.  This is no lightweight category!

There are just 10 members of this group: Bill, Dale, Bob, Roger, Dave, Eric, Jeff A, Richard, Pete, and Elliot.  joined by playing in his 100th game (and he was a super-regular player this year for the first time).  Tinu needs just 9 games to join.  But watch out: you can drop out of this group rather quickly if you don’t continue to be a regular player.

Below is look at games played by this group from 1995-2016.  Imagine Bill’s total if we had records going back to 1983!

Iron man players (new this year):

It’s time to introduce yet another category!  The iron-man category is for super-regular (20+ games in a season) play for 5 years in a row.

All-time Records:

As of this year, there are 36 different “official” records (plus some unofficial ones not ready for publication): 29 are overall team records and just 7 are individual attendance records.  Almost half of the team records were broken this year.  Notice that two records are 30 years old!
